All lifts have limit switches, which automatically stop the unit at the top or bottom of the staircase and save energy. Footrest sensors are standards on all lifts, which keep the lifts from running when the chair is misaligned. All seats swivel 90 degrees toward the stair landing at every level, for easy entry and exit. All but one model run on mains power, meaning there is no hassle with charging batteries.
Models and New Design Features
Standard Summit stairlifts are rated to bear up to 300 pounds. There is a heavy-duty version called Summit Max, which will hold up to 500 pounds. The outdoor version has vinyl upholstery, anodized aluminum tracks and weather-tight components to keep the elements out, plus an additional waterproof covering for the chair. Summit has also recently released a folding-arm feature, which helps diminish the chair lift’s profile. The newest member of the Summit family of stairlifts is their Pinnacle model, which introduces the company’s first battery-powered power system. Until now, Summit has only offered mains power sourcing, but the addition of the Pinnacle has changed the company’s level of competition in the lift market. Rated for up to 350 pounds, Summit stairlifts’ Pinnacle model has convenience features only offered by higher-priced brands, such as remote call functions, obstruction sensors on the footrest and body, and more color options.
